Veterans Take the Acting Stage in 'Grounds for Inquiry'

Pacific Palisades, CA – Post 283 recently opened its doors to an innovative short film project produced by MV Awards (mvawards.org), giving veterans the opportunity to step out of their usual roles and into the acting spotlight. The project, titled Grounds for Inquiry, transformed the Post into a working film set while empowering veterans to share their voices through storytelling and performance.

With the tagline “Congress at Its Best”, the film playfully examines the inner workings of political power through the eyes of a fictional congressional team (we won’t spoil the punchline). But beyond its political satire, the project carried a deeper mission—putting veterans in the acting seat and giving them a platform for creative expression.

A Stage for Veterans

For many of the veteran participants, Grounds for Inquiry marked their first opportunity to perform in a professional film environment. Guided by industry professionals, veterans took on major speaking roles and learned firsthand the rhythm of set life—from blocking scenes to delivering lines under the lights.

The choice of Post 283 as the production site was intentional. With its long history of service and community leadership, the Post provided both the atmosphere and the support network needed to make the project a success.

Art and storytelling have long been pathways for veterans to process experience and connect with others. By stepping into fictional roles, the participants in Grounds for Inquiry were able to channel their energy into performance, collaboration, and humor—all while building new bonds with fellow veterans.

MV Awards hopes that Grounds for Inquiry will inspire more projects that combine the worlds of film and veteran empowerment. As the short makes its way into screenings and festival consideration, the veterans who took part will be able to see their work celebrated by audiences far beyond the walls of Post 283.
