More than 150 people from military and veteran families joined us this year for our annual trip to Emerald Bay on beautiful Catalina Island, and what a weekend it turned out to be. From April 10–12, we enjoyed ideal conditions despite forecasts calling for rain much of the weekend. In the end, the weather gave us a gift—aside from a light drizzle Sunday as the group departed the island, the skies held and allowed everyone to make the most of the adventure.

The weekend was packed with activity and something for everyone. Scouts and families took part in shotgun shooting, .22 rifle marksmanship, archery, snorkeling, kayaking, paddleboarding, and swimming in Emerald Bay’s clear waters. Others explored the island on hikes, visited the ship store for treats and souvenirs, or simply enjoyed relaxing in one of California’s most unique outdoor settings.

One of the great things about Emerald Bay is how it brings generations together. Kids challenged themselves with new skills, friendships grew stronger through shared adventures, and families made memories that will last well beyond the weekend. Evenings brought everyone together around the campfire for skits, laughter, and storytelling—a tradition that remains a highlight year after year.

For the adults, the cocktail sundowner social offered a chance to unwind, connect, and take in the beauty of the bay as the sun went down. It was a wonderful way to close out active days and enjoy fellowship in a spectacular setting.

What makes this trip special is the sense of community it builds. Whether it was a first time holding a rifle, a first paddleboard ride, a favorite campfire performance, or simply sharing a meal with friends, Emerald Bay once again delivered the kind of experience that keeps people coming back.

Thank you our staff for organizing the trip. It takes a lot to gather the required forms from participants, check everyone in at the dock, organize the sleeping arrangements, activities scheduling, etc.

Thanks to everyone who joined us and helped make this year’s trip such a success. With this many participants, great weather, full programs, and strong camaraderie, this was one for the books. We hope to see even more of you next year.
