Post 283 Distribution Center - Welcome to the New Space

When the Palisades Fire swept through Los Angeles in January, it left a scar that will be felt for generations. Nearly 7,000 structures were destroyed, tens of thousands of residents were displaced, and entire neighborhoods faced the unimaginable task of starting over. Amid the chaos, American Legion Ronald Reagan–Palisades Post 283 stood, undamaged by flames and ready to assist the community as it has since the 1920s.

Within days of the fire, Post 283 members pivoted and worked to transform from a veterans’ hall into a community support center. Recognizing the scale of the disaster, Post 283 expanded its mission by establishing a Fire Relief Distribution Center at a storage locker facility in Culver City. This location quickly became a lifeline for families who had lost everything.

On Saturday, September 6th, Post 283 proudly celebrated the Grand Re-opening of its new center at 6221 Bristol Parkway in Culver City, which will remain open through the end of 2025. The event featured live music, delicious food, an opportunity for guests to connect with our dedicated team and local community leaders, and volunteers were honored for their ongoing service

We continue to accept donations of new or like-new items and maintain an active Amazon Wish List under “Post 283 DC Ops Wish List.” If you were impacted by the January fires in the Pacific Palisades or Eaton areas—or if you’re a transitioning military veteran in need of basic essentials and furniture—please reach out to Chaplain Williams at (402) 525-3395 to schedule a shopping appointment.

Those interested in volunteering can visit our Post 283 Events page for upcoming opportunities, typically held Friday through Sunday.
